Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to welcome you to MipTec 2013 (24-26 September), the largest European conference dedicated to the science of drug discovery.  MipTec offers professionals in the field of Drug Discovery and Life Sciences a platform to discuss and share knowledge about the latest scientific breakthroughs and advances in technology as well as industry standards.

The drug discovery community faces it’s great challenges in this decade. Under mounting pressure from patients and payers, we have to find the right medicines for the right patients. In order to succeed, we have to improve our means to interrogate and remedy the biological mechanisms underlying disease in order to identify better validated targets for unmet medical needs.

Yet, this decade also holds the greatest promise to deliver on many fronts. Breakthroughs in new technologies has enabled pharmacogenomics to deliver personalized medicines to some patient populations, cell based therapies are advancing to the clinic, and exciting developments in biological engineering are enabling the interrogation of novel disease mechanisms.

MipTec annually hosts leading scientists from academia and industry to explore these rapid changes in the science and technology of drug discovery, with the aim to overcome challenges for developing new medicines, advance new industry standards, and seed new opportunities.

Every year, more than 3’000 participants gather to contribute in over 100 lectures in 10 scientific tracks, 150 poster presentations and over 100 commercial exhibitors, and partake in a community of like-minded individuals to explore the opportunities and challenges at the frontiers of drug discovery.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the many individuals and organizations that continue to work diligently to make MipTec 2013 a success. And our appreciation goes to the participants of this annual conference, whose support has enabled us to expand the program to explore new frontiers, and the ability to launch new initiatives to advance the drug discovery community.
