Large crowds at MipTec life sciences event
MipTec, the major global specialist event for life sciences which took place at the Congress Center Basel, came to a close on Thursday 22 September 2011. The four-day congress and trade fair attracted around 3,000 visitors. The organising committee and organiser Congrex Switzerland were both very satisfied with the success of the event.
The MipTec congress and trade fair was held from 19 to 22 September 2011 in the Congress Center Basel. Around 3,000 natural scientists, specialists, academics, teachers, students and interested people from all branches of the pharmaceuticals, chemicals and biotechnology sectors met for an exchange of knowledge and information and for networking.
The organising committee, led by conference President Dr Lorenz Mayr, and the organiser Congrex Switzerland are also very satisfied with the progress at MipTec.
A proven concept
The combination of congress and trade fair proved to be popular with all participants. The goal is to promote the cooperation and coordination of global corporations, companies, start-ups and academies. Furthermore, the region needs to be attractive to highly qualified people and make natural sciences and technology inspiring for younger people. The spillover effect will be the further strengthening of the Basel location, thereby drawing well-funded investors.
Formula for success
Founded 18 years ago, MipTec has been free for the past five years for those who register in advance. 95 per cent of the visitors signed up early. It's thanks to the support of sponsors from the pharmaceuticals sector and to BaselArea, the business developer of the Basel region, that a soughtafter top-class specialist congress like MipTec can grant free entrance.
A view into the future
After 15 years of research and investments running into the billions, a human genome can currently be deciphered in a few days. ''Acceleration is huge and faster than development in the computer industry'', states Dr
Lorenz Mayr. On the basis of the genetic fingerprint, medicines in the future will aim to match patient groups. In this way, research costs can be MipTec 2011 | 19 – 22 September 2011 | Organiser: Congrex | Location: Congress Center Basel, Schweiz reduced, diagnoses and therapies will be more effective and the healing process more successful.
